The course is designed to provide students with knowledge of English phonetics and phonology theory and practice. Discussion and exercises are the two major classroom activities. At the end of the course, the students are expected to be able to understand the sound and spelling system of English, write the transcription of English phones, explain the organs of speech which function during the production of English sound, segmental and suprasegmentals.
